Eligibility
The Wolverines Bantam Program is available to boys and girls who are 13, 14, or 15 years of age as of December 31 of the current football season. Players must not be going into Grade 10 in September.
We play in the Capital District Minor Football Association, which has teams in the Atom (8-10 yrs.), PeeWee (11-12 yrs.), Bantam and Midget (Gr. 9-10-11) divisions. In Sherwood Park, the Atom and PeeWee teams operate under the authority of the Strathcona County Minor Football Association.
Sherwood Park's Bantam teams are independent organizations. The Bantam division has teams from Edmonton and surrounding area, including Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Leduc, and St. Albert, as well as Fort McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan, Okotoks and Lloydminster.
Our team boundaries encompass Sherwood Park and most of the populated area of the County of Strathcona (that area south of Highway 16). We can also accommodate players from outside these boundaries, provided that they do not live in an area that falls within another CDMFA team's jurisdiction. The exception to this rule is that you can ask that the Wolverines request a release from the team within whose boundaries that you live. This release, if approved, will then allow you to become a Wolverine. CDMFA makes the final decision on whether or not player releases are approved; however, it's been our experience that most are.
How Do I Register?
Bantam registration commences in the spring. The Wolverines host our famous Gym Nites starting in February. All who are interested in becoming Wolverines are invited to take part. There is no charge; the Wolverines have never charged for these functions. All costs, including insurance provided by Football Alberta, are borne by the team. In this way we can ensure that all participants are fully covered by the same Football Alberta insurance plan that is in place for players during the regular football season, at no cost to the participant's family. Some teams might have you believe that if you are not charged a fee, you might not be insured. The Wolverines simply believe that you should not have to pay for this insurance, and we therefore provide it free of charge.
Whether you are a graduating PeeWee or you are of Bantam age and did not play football last year, the Wolverines are interested in you. We would love to have you try out for our team. As a young organization on its way up, the Wolverines will promise you a Bantam career that will be exciting and rewarding. At the end of your Bantam career, we of course offer our Midget program. So you can look forward to a long and enjoyable relationship with the Wolverines, one that you will treasure for the rest of your playing days, and beyond. Previous football experience is not required in order for you to have a great time playing this wonderful game.
And yes, girls are welcome too!
