What's The Howler?

The annual Wolverine Howler is our major fundraising event of the season. Each year, our Bantam parents are asked by the team to solicit silent auction items for sale at the Howler, to seek sposors for the many fun events that we have, and to volunteer their time and efforts as ticket takers, barkeepers, kitchen duty, set-up and cleanup, and a host of other things that we need to do to make the event a success. In addition, each family is tasked with selling tickets for the event.

Why The Howler?

There are two reasons. First of all, it raises a significant amount of money for the team; in fact, into the five figures. This is cash that is returned to the players in the form of the purchase of top-notch, professional-quality equipment. As an example, over the last two seasons the team has purchased some 50 new Riddell Revolution helmets at approximately $200 apiece. The Howler funds provided us the means to do so. As a result, we have sufficiently stocked our helmet inventory with enough of these helmets to outfit each player who wants this type of helmet, while continuing to be able to offer other top-quality gear to those players who prefer another brand.

The second reason is that it's just a lot of fun! It's a great way for the parents to mix and to mingle, and get to know one another better. Over the past few seasons we have also held the function in conjunction with Hallowe'en, which turns it into one great costume party.

How Much Does The Howler Raise?

It varies from year to year, and as we do more and more of them they become more successful. Our last Howler raised in excess of ten thousand dollars; money that was used to upgrade our equipment inventory.
