Peewee Blue CDMFA Tier 2 City Champions!

“The game started off tight with a very low scoring affair between two strong teams, as both of the offences tried to figure out how to unlock the opposing defence,” Armstrong said.

The Wolverines opened the scoring with a reverse run by wide receiver Logan Armstrong, but Leduc answered back with a converted TD of its own and was looking for more just before the end of the first half before safety Lucas Armstrong came up with a huge interception to keep the score the way it was at the half.

“We were a third quarter team all season long and came back in the second half with adjustments that we hoped would lead to our ultimate goal of a championship win,” coach Armstrong said. “An offence that hadn’t been able to roll the way they were accustomed to most of the season started to find its high gear and cranked it up.”

Star running back Austin Barsi took the team on his shoulders and scored three touchdowns on his signature sweep to the outside.

The Wolverines defence also held firm with sacks by linebackers Jacob Carter-Barsi and Kieran Cleave and even got on the scoreboard themselves when Trystan Proulx took an interception all the way into the end zone for a pick six.

They kept their foot on the gas as quarterback Darian Sautner guided the downfield for two more strikes, Barsi’s fourth of the game and another from Logan Armstrong.

“That was all Sherwood Park needed and the Wolverines ended the game with a 45-13 win over the Wildcats to bring home their first Tier 2 CDMFA City Championship,” coach Armstrong said. “It was a wonderful way for all these boys to finish off their season.”
